This month goes from poems about tigers, friends, rainbows, and beards. We feel the sadness of friends moving, and celebrate the love of friends and family. 

This resource has poetry comprehension questions for 4 published poems.  The poems for this month celebrate the arrival of Spring and friendships.  Each guide includes comprehension questions, and suggested activities to engage or connect with the poem of the week.

The poetry comprehension questions guide students through the elements of poetry and allow them the opportunity to apply key reading literature standards. 

The discussions and activities give students a chance to connect the poems to themselves and the world around them. Many times we forget the fun of poems because we had to “dissect” them in high school and college. But, kids love it! Poems break rules, have a rhythm that kids understand, and allow them to quickly make connections.

The poetry comprehension questions address limericks, lines, stanzas, and rhyme scheme.  Students also find both explicit and implicit information in the poems.  These Poetry Vocabulary Posters can help students learn these elements of poetry.
