President’s Day Poetry Lesson Plan

FREE President's Day Poetry Lesson Plan

To help with your President’s Day lesson planning, I have a poem below that ties in with the theme of the week. Vote for Me! is a great poem to get your students talking about presidential responsibilities and democracy.

Discussion Questions:

1. How many lines and stanzas are in this poem?

2. What is the rhyme scheme?

3. Do you think this poet convinced you to vote for them?  Did they give anything that made you trust them?

4. Why would you, or why wouldn’t you vote for this person?

5. What words are repeated in this poem? (What is the repetition?)

6. Why do you think these words were repeated?

Writing Task:

Rewrite this poem adding why someone should vote for you or for one of your friends or family members.  You can use the same rhyme scheme, rhythm, and repetition or create you own.  I’d love for you to share your finished poems in the comment section below!
