The busy time of the year is here.  There is so much to do.  So, how do you fit it all in AND still enjoy the season?

Poetry is a great way to get to the standards and celebrate this time of year.  Here are a few ideas:

The FREE November A Poem Each Week has arrived! Poetry is great for read alouds and introducing and reviewing standards.

This month focuses on four Thanksgiving poems by Jack Prelutsky.

The discussions and activities give students a chance to connect the poems to themselves and the world around them.  Students also make connections to healthy choices, graphing weather, and learning the history of the First Thanksgiving.

This November Poetry Literacy Center has 4 poems for the month.  (Election Day, Veteran’s Day, Gratitude, and Thanksgiving).  Each week has 4 different activities for students to engage with the poem.  The activities include close reads, informational text paired texts, writing poetry, written response, comprehension questions, art creation, and more.

This Veteran’s Day Paired Text and Close Read lesson is included in the November Poetry Literacy Center, but is also available separately.  Included: Poem, Informational Passage, Close Read, Comprehension Questions, Bio Poem Lesson (with Template), and Written Response (Thank You Letter).
