The Virtual Poetry Month

Poetry month distance learning ideas. A 30-day Poetry Challenge

Need an easy way to share poetry with students this month?  Try a virtual poetry month.

Here are a few ways to celebrate Poetry Month with distance learning:

30-Day Poetry Challenge

This FREE 30-Day Poetry Challenge gives students one activity to help foster a love of poetry even from a distance.  This challenge has 30 activities for students. Students will write a variety of poems, read famous poems, find figurative language, and practice different poetry elements.  A Quick-Reference guide is provided to help with the key terms and types of poetry.

Distance Learning Poetry Units:

All of the Poetry Units have gotten a Digital Makeover.  The Student Handbooks have been converted to Google Slides so they can be dropped into Google Classroom.  Notes have been added to the sides to help learners work independently.

FlipGrid Poetry Response

FlipGrid is a great way to get students to respond and talk about poetry.  Use this format for a quick poetry mini-lesson or reading of a poem. Have students respond to your poem.  You can also have students practice fluency by reading aloud a poem of their choice.

Digital Poetry Cafe

At the end of your unit, have an online Google Meet (or any other way you are using to meet with students), and let students share a poem they wrote.  You can also have students share their Poetry Portfolios with other students allowing for comments and feedback.
